Wonky Weather and Race Goals

This is going to be a short post because its been a long day and I'm exhausted.

Checking the forecast for this weekend (Niagara Marathon) is a little unnerving. One day its sunny, the next its raining. Currently they are calling for a high of 13, with part cloud/Sun/light rain. Perfect! Only one scary tidbit, 45km/hr wind, let's hope its at my back.

Today we have rain/snow sleet in Whitby! Yuck! Regardless of the weather, I am going to try my best. I have trained for this, I can do it. At least its not going to be warm and humid!

In terms of goals, I have just one: get a PR. I know I can, I just have to go out slow. I want to enjoy the race and the scenery, I have never crossed a border by foot before.

Thanks for reading!

Good luck! Hope your recuperate from the long day. 45km/hr wind with possible snow and sleet. You have must have some serious drive to push through that.

The wind forecast is intimidating, but one of my visualization tips is to imagine the wind at my back, pushing me. It is harder if the wind isn't ACTUALLY at your back, but keep that metaphorical wind behind you at least!

I have all the faith in you!
BUT...just remember...you don't have any control over the weather so just take it as it comes.
I actully had one of my better marathons on a day the wind was blowing so hard you could hardly move forward.

I'm with you Marci. Although I am only running the 10k, the wind will be at my back going out, and in my face coming in! A friend of mine has to decide by midnight tonight whether he's doing the full or the half, and the wind is what is worrying him. I figure I'll stop watching the forecast until Saturday night, and then just go with it.

Best of luck on your race!

That sounds like a good plan -- go out slow! Much easier than thinking you have to go out fast to make your PR! Good luck!

Pace will win the race; set your Garmin to nag you if you go too fast!

Marci,

I just had this conversation with my manager, who registered to run the Niagara Falls Marathon last night pretty late because he was worried that he'd be running into the wind, and when the Weathernetwork calls says wind will be "SW 35km/h" (as it does now) it means it will be blowing FROM the SouthWest, and at your back as you run. Good luck!

Do you have to bring passport with you when you run over to Canada? Custom inspection?? That will eat up a lot of your time to get through the inspection, huh??

Good luck! That weather is kind of unpredictable, I'm surprised they don't have Niagara a little bit earlier.
Excited to hear about it!

I am sending good weather vibes your way. The weather network is a full time obsession of mine the week before a marathon
