Gearing Back Up

I have slowly gotten back into running this past week after having to sit out the Around the Bay Road Race last week. This cold has hung on, and although I am running a little this week, my pace is slow as my breathing is asthmatic- like.

Being the addict I am (I seriously have issues, I know) I am still planning on another May marathon. Originally I had targeted the New Jersey Marathon May 3rd, but since I am still struggling getting back up to pace, I think its too soon.

Other choices are:

Mississauga Marathon - May 11th - This will be my target, but I am not registering until it gets closer to race date since I don't know if I'll be 100% ready. I have run this twice as a half and its a good course to run.
Cleveland Marathon - May 17th -A group of running friends are running this, so we will be going, but I will either run a half or a full here.
Bayshore Marathon - May 24th - I like the reviews of this race on marathon guide. Anyone out there run this one before?
Ottawa Marathon- May 24th - My nemesis, I never run well here. What better reason to come back and conquer (well at least conquer for me!)

I will likely run more than one, I can never just pick one!

I have also been slotting in some lower distance training race runs. My first one is next Friday, the Good Friday Road Race 10 miler. The other I will announce as I get closer to formulating a plan of some sort.

I really need to get a training plan in place, it has to have some flexibility since I don't know how long this cold will hang on. Next year I think I will definately get a flu shot. I usually don't get sick, but this is twice this winter. Anyway, sorry if this sounds whiney. I am feeling better really, I just am itching to get into some serious training again.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. Thanks for reading.

My name is Bruce and I'm a running addict. I know how frustrating it can be to miss a race due to a flu or injury, it feels that all your training in preparation is down the drain...but isn't the real reason we train is for a lifetime of health and fitness!?!?

You are crazy with the marathons!!

That stinks that your cold keeps hanging on and messing with your breathing. It looks like you've got some good marathons to choose from.

It's awesome that your addiction is marathons, though!

Well there are certainly plenty of choices, now which one to pick. Hope you kick this cold for good soon.

I'd have to throw my vote to Cleveland since I'll be running it too. Go for the full 26.2! I hear it's flat--what more could you ask for?!?

Sorry to read you're still feeling crummy! I think you should try a new marathon and not go back to Ottawa if you always have a hard time there!!

you truly are a marathon addict! But it is a good thing! Feel better soon!

Fanatic! LOL!
If you enjoy them - the more the merrier. Its one of the few addictions that is good for you.

I hope you feel better. I had a cold this winter. The coughing fit after the run was the worst part. Try to get some rest.

Feel better soon! Seems like you have lots of options as far as racing goes in May, and I suspect you will run more rather than less. That cold is bound to be gone ASAP.

There are so many races in May! Good luck deciding. Would be nice to see you at Mississauga. :)

Continued get well vibes coming your way. You poor thing, you've been sick forever!

Feel better soon! I haven't run any of the races on your list so I'm no help.

I've run Bayshore and it is a nice, small, flat race in a nice small town (my hometown, in fact!) However, unless you know something I don't know, this race is sold out. I tried to get in on the half and couldn't several weeks ago.

Hope you get over the cold soon . . . you've got a lot of running on your plate! I have a hard time picking races too . . . so many just look so fun.

Hi Marci

I have done both Cleveland and Bayshore. Cleveland is a great marathon that is well supported, well organized and a pretty likeable course. I would love to do it again, but it is just hasn't fit into my schedule. Bayshore is a fantastic race that I am doing again this year. It is only a month after Boston, but I couldn't resist. Unfortunately, Nitmos is right. It sold out quite some time ago. I have heard great things about Mississauga and it is also on my list.

Get better, would ya!?!

I have friends doing Bayshore, it comes highly recommended, it's supposed to be flat and very scenic.

Hope you are feeling better!! You are definitely hooked to marathons. Don't single out New Jersey Marathon. My house is literally like five minutes to the starting line. BTW, I do happen to know that Ms. Second Chance will be participating in Mississauga Marathon so you may have a chance to meet her.
Get well and we need to pray for warmer weather, right?

Most people just have to worry about one race to run. You really are an addict. How many states have you ran in so far?

One more vote for Ottawa! As you know, having run it so many times before, it's a pretty flat course. Though they all sound pretty neat...

C said...

I'm no help, they all sound like good options. Good luck choosing!

Good luck choosing one of those. I've wanted to run Cleveland, but it hasn't worked out for me yet.

An addict? Or just seriously dedicated to what you love? :) That's awesome.

Yes, run in Ottawa! (Okay, I'm biased because I live there, but still, I hear it's a great race weekend!)

definitely go for the flu shot next time around! You need to stay healthy to hang onto such a fantastic addiction.

MISSISSAUGA MISSISSAUGA MISSISSAUGA MISSAUSSAUGA!!! I'll hang around and wait for you to finish...

Haha. Hope you're feeling better...I breathe like that every day.

Yes, Bayshore is opening up briefly on the morn of May 3rd for a few final entrants. I'll be doing Cincy that morning but my wife will be in the hotel trying to sign me up for the half!

Gotta have that plan! Failing to plan well you know!

The only hurdle to accessing this is of course human limitations and the
fact that the brain does not function solely as a learning tool for the
human being. Brazenhead is a great place to go with your
family or for a business lunch or dinner, but if you are looking for a party atmosphere,
this isn't it. Ask your local club to run this for you.
