Mid-Week Motivation: Why do you Run?

I have had a crazy few days (exam week and parents night), so I haven't posted much on my blog, but I am looking forward to catching up on all of your blogs, so sorry for the lack of comments! I promise I have been reading them though! I haven't posted my week 4 training summary yet, but I will hopefully about it later this week. I found this little video and thought I would share it with you:

I hope you have a great rest of your week! Thanks for reading!

P.S - Why do you run? Feel free to leave your comments below!

I run because after sitting in a cube all day, I need to spend some time outside!

Oh my gosh...what was that footage of the woman collapsing and crawling to the finish line. Now I'm not sure why I run!

I think I need to ask myself this. I need some motivation to get out the door!

i run because i can't afford to loose much more of my brain -- running keeps away my stress, and hopefully seizures :) i run because i can! Enjoy the rest of the week!

I had goosebumps through most of that! Wow especially with the women collapsing at the finish of the ironman!

I run because I was given two legs and arms and they work and I need to not waste the gift!

I run because it makes me feel strong. (even when it makes me feel wiped out!)

fun! i run because it makes me feel purposeful. i do it to be in good shape and to feel healthy+whole. i do it to improve and get faster and go further (farther). i also like meeting people who run and feeling connected to them because of it.

"Because I have to believe...even if they don't" Made me a little teary eyed but they couldn't have said it better:)

And the ladies crawling across the ironman finish line--makes me a weeee bit nervous.

Running is my anti-depressant. I have to run. Period.

BTW, I got an email from the Suntrust National Marathon saying that there are less than 1000 full marathon spots left. Just wanted to let you know in case you were still considering DC.

I run because it makes me feel good. It give me my alone time and gives me time to think/medidate. It also burns hella calories, which I'm totally down for. ;-)

I run because I want to be lean and strong (at least for a while) before I leave this planet.

What a great video. Thanks for posting it.
I run 'cause it is all on me to do it - succeed of fail it is on my shoulders.

What a great video - gave me chills! I run for so many reasons, but mainly because it's become just a part of who I am.

"Why do I run?"

Why? What have you heard?

That was awesome - the father and son, the women crawling to the IM finish line. Wow.

I don't really distinguish between mid-week runs and weekend runs, probably because I haven't gotten up to the mileage that requires that kind of separation. However, I run partly because I like it, and partly because I feel guilty if I don't. Hope things simmer down for you!

I'm with most of the commenters so far...I run becaus I feel strong, and because I can. Running's always there through the tough times. :)

Awesome Video..

I run to release everyday stress, get in shape and its the one thing I can do for myself that I don't have to depend on anyone to do.

Hope you get a chance to relax this weekend! I'm impressed if you're still managing to fit in your hardcore training runs!

My reasons are rotating but these days I'm running because I can't stop. Truly an addiction...

I run because it's cheaper than therapy.

well that teared me up :-) in a inspirational way, THANK YOU!

Well my running is long and slow unlike that video but "WHY I run those crazy Ultras" is because of the MENTAL Challenge ...all those crazy mind games you go through when your moving over 100 miles, it is awesome and suggest everyone try it :-) well ya know with proper training of course !

Thanks again great post!

Hi! :) I'm training for my first 1/2 marathon the day after Valentine's day! eek! Love the video...definitely motivating on a 'feeling lazy' day!

Laurel said...

I run to eat. Oh yeah, and beer. :)

No, seriously, I run because there is NO better feeling than the high after a hard run. And I LOVE being able to see my surroundings through the eyes of a runner. I can't imagine all the beautiful things I would have never seen if I didn't run.

NikeKnits said...

Marci,

Just curious - do you have a good winter 20K route in Durham? I'm visiting over the weekend and haven't done this kind of mileage there since August.

I think I run to learn about myself and others.
I'm sure there's also alot of people out there who would never thought they would one day be described as a marathon runner. Even after I did that, it took a while to sink in.
We are capable of changing ourselves AND accepting ourselves as we are at the same time.

To keep sane! Without running I would have run for the hills.

To see what's on the other side of the horizon!

I have to honestly think about why I run. It truly depends on the day, but it helps keep you fit as you age...

I'll get back to you
