In the meantime, I have St.George Utah marathon on Oct 3rd. At least I thought I did... Hubs is having trouble getting the time off work so I may have to go alone, or not go at all. I keep wavering between the two. In one respect I really want to run the marathon. The course looks beautiful, and I have already paid my registration fee. Would you travel by yourself to a marathon?
On the other hand training for the Muskoka 70.3 had me running less than I normally would for a marathon. I did run a few 30+ K runs, but haven't focused on speed to any large degree. This week I have been tired so I stuck to easy workouts (1 swim, 1 bike and 2 runs). I don't mind just completing the marathon, but I was sorta hoping to PR it or at least enjoy it with Hubs.
I do have some other news. I am running the Hamilton Road 2 Hope marathon on November 1st, and then I am even more excited to announce that I am running the CIM marathon December 6th. My sister and brother in law are also running it, and we are going to stay at my Dad's in San Ramone. I hope I can meet some of my favourite west coast bloggers. I can't wait to run a marathon with my sister (although she will be much faster than me)!!
Here are a couple of more pictures from Muskoka 70.3;

Congratulations to all racers this weekend, I look forward to reading your race reports. Hope you all have a great Monday, thanks for reading!!
Tough choice about St. George, but great news about CIM!! Love your race pics!
ReplyDeleteI say do the run alone! What else do you have to do that day :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pics, nice job!
do what ever feels right, if it were me, i'd probably not choose to travel alone, but you're not me!
ReplyDeleteYou have so much coming up!
ReplyDeleteI probably would travel alone - just because most of my races and almost all of my training to date has been solo. And... I would keep kicking myself for paying for it!
The SGM is awesome. I have run Boston, NYC, Chicago, Big Sur, etc. and the SGM is the best one in my opinion. Very well organized, the weather is great, volunteers are amazing, and it's a fast marathon. Read about my experience at http://bit.ly/8hRFJ . I would recommend that you run it.

GREAT pictures. What a race schedule you have coming up. I would travel alone to a Marathon, mainly because I know it will be hard for us to always go as a family.
ReplyDeleteI just completed my last offocially registered race...UGH!! I need to register for another ASAP..
GREAT photo's,
ReplyDeleteyes, do some more tri's and Half Iron's then pick your Ironman, you CAN do it.
As for going alone, hmmmm, I'm not big on that, there are so many things that could happen, you really do need someone there to have "just in case" that is a long distance for travel wise and race wise, you have to respect the distance.
I'm not sure I'd travel alone, but I'm a wuss. You should go for it!
ReplyDeletenice line up of races...you really keep yourself busy!
i wouldn't travel alone to my first or second marathon... but you are a veteran!!! i would go!!! think of how you will feel if you run versus if you don't run, after the fact.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on IM 70.3. Have fun with all your upcoming events.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I would travel to a marathon alone... I sure hope hubs can get the time off! You were so excited about this one!
ReplyDeleteAwesome to hear that you're going back to Road2Hope. I will be there cheering on the marathon course so I'll see you for sure.
Good news about CIM, especially being a family affair! I'm jealous that you'll get to meet those awesome California girls. :)
LOVE your pics! You were fantastic - CONGRATULATIONS!!! What a HUGE accomplishment :D
ReplyDeleteAs long as I didn't have to drive to a marathon, I'd do it alone.
Nice pictures! I would run St. George alone. You have a fun fall schedule coming up. :)
ReplyDeletegreat pics! :)
ReplyDeletei've traveled to a marathon alone before. i think it was ~an 11hr drive even. so, i totally vote for it, but i'd understand if you didn't. either way, you've got some fun races coming up!
You just might be a running addict! HA! ;-)
ReplyDeleteDon't know what I would do about St. George. That's a tough call.
You should definitely go. Besides the only alone time you'll have is the travel and sleep time. All other times you'll be with your running brothers and sisters :) Do it, do it do it!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics!
ReplyDeleteNo advice on St. George. I run without my hubby at the race (he's usually watching the rugrats), but if it's an out of town race, he usually travels with me.
Great pictures! Congrats again on finishing the half ironman! That is such a great accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteYou will definitely be able to meet up with many West Coast bloggers at CIM. They all seem to run it.
ReplyDeleteI just read your race report. You did such a great job. Way to overcome the bike crash. Hope your hip is feeling much better.
ReplyDeleteLove all the swag.
you're running CIM?!?!?!?!!?! YAYYYY this is awesome news :) we HAVE to meet up!!! there are a ton of us running it :)
ReplyDeleteTough call about traveling alone. I probably woudln't have done it for my first marathon, but maybe future ones.
ReplyDeleteOoh, great race photos!
ReplyDeleteI actually have gone to most of my marathons alone since my husband is often only home on weekends and I don't like asking him to get back on a plane when he just got off one a few hours before. Besides, I know spectating a race is pretty boring for him unless he's able to do something active too like ride his bike (he can't run). So unless we're on vacation or he's already on a business trip in the area of my race, I prefer if he does NOT accompany me so I can run w/o feeling guilty. Besides, he lets me use all his freq flier miles and hotel points already :-)
Good luck in deciding. I've heard that St George is a PR course but downhills really fry my quads and I've never come close to running as fast as I can on a flat course.
Hi Marci
ReplyDeleteI have heard that CIM is a truly great race. I have gone to quite a few of my races alone. My wife and my 7 year old are great support, but logistically it is just not always possible.
Take care and best of luck with your training.
I have and would travel to a marathon alone! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteI am doing CIM!!!! Yay!!! Meet-up!
Heck YES...go by yourself. Enjoy some alone time and have a great run.
ReplyDeleteI would go it alone. Mostly b/c I'm cheap and if I've paid for something I want to GO! However, it would be lonely. Maybe there are other bloggers running it and you could meet up with them?!?!
ReplyDeleteLots of peeps are running CIM. That's my hometown marathon. Growing up I thought those people were crazy, little did I know that one day I'd be one of them! Have a great time!
Awesome pictures!
Marci, I think I've only ever NOT traveled to a marathon alone twice :)
ReplyDeleteE-mail Steve Yee and I bet you can hang out with him and discuss Maniacal pursuits all weekend. There are definitely enough Maniacs going that you could organize a dinner or something.
I just have to say it's encouraging to see how many people train and run alone. I can't get people in my life motivated to run with me and this has been helpful to get over my frustration. Thanks!
