As the day went on, the temperature rose, and the snow turned to rain, making it really slushy and wet out. I came home and by the time I was ready to run, it was dark, but the rain had stopped and it was a mild outside. I decided to venture outside for my first outdoor run since I caught that darn cold.
It was absolutely beautiful out. The moonlight was shining on the snow, and reflecting back to create a warm inviting glow. Running along, I was enjoying the beautiful Christmas lights and the light mist in the air was fresh and wonderful.
Very fairytale like. Much like this picture. Ahhh I thought to myself, I can run forever, maybe instead of 7K I'll go for 12K. Maybe I'll pick up my pace.
My thoughts turned to those smug people (you know you you are) who live in those "warm" climates and how they are just missing out. Silly, silly people, I mused, as I ran downhill, they think we Canadians are crazy for living in such conditions when THEY are the one who are missing out!
I was at a blazing speed by the base of the hill and I as I crossed onto the brigde at the bottom I lost my footing and fell flat on my a$$ (only after flying a few feet in the air first).
The bridge was a freaking ice rink.
BA HUM BUG!
So maybe there are benefits to a warm climate.....
Nothing hurt but my pride, I took a shortcut home and opted for a measly 5K. Tonight I opted for an ice-free indoor swim. Gotta love that winter running. Maybe I need to screw my running shoes like Marcy. Anyway, hope you are all having a great week, thanks for reading!

I'm so not a nighttime runner (scared of the dark LOL) and I can't imagine running with snow anywhere near me. Sounds like you had a nice run until you hit the ice, though.
It may be mild now, but it's hell in the summer...well it feels like it at least!
Fairytale run conditions.
Until the bridge, that is.
:-)
OMG! I guess Marcy is onto something with screwing the shoes! LOL. glad you didn't get hurt
Aw, I was picturing your pretty run until you fell. Sorry!!! At least you're ok.
I've taken a spill on a bridge before too. Luckily, no body saw me...at least I don't think so.
I am afraid I will fall on the ice just walking to class much less while running! I love it when the moon is out while running!
I can picture that !!! Must be a beautiful run. I wouldn't mind having that kind of run maybe once a year. After that, I want warmer climate.
I am glad you didn't get hurt.
Oh Marcy! Somehow I knew that was coming. Sorry about your little tumble - I also find myself caught up in the beauty of a winter run (SOMETIMES!) and one of these days I'm sure to land flat on my butt.
I'm glad you're ok!!! Man I hate it when that happens.
Did you use Yak Trax? Man this scares me now LMAO! We shall see how the screw shoes work . . . .
I have fallen, and there was not snow, ice, ran or a rock. I hurt my anckle to bad they x-ray'd it twice before deciding it was just sprained.... I was so mortified.
How funny...it snowed here too! In southern Louisiana...very very strange!
If it makes you feel any better, I have fallen too, and in the desert southwest, there is no ice and snow. Hope you are OK!

dang I think u called me out :-(
I am heading up North for the Holidays for 2 weeks ...hope I get some snow to run in and after two weeks of cold I will ready to go home and warm the flock back up - lol
Happy Winter Running...good visual post!
Laughing because this ALWAYS happens to me! The minute I start thinking "Oh, it's so lovely, this is wonderful, I could go forever," I usually trip over something. At least you have an icy bridge and not clumsiness to blame!
I'm not ashamed to admit that every winter I gazer longingly to the south. Screw winter.
So sorry you fell!
And yeah, like Stuart says, summer is when we have our "bad running conditions"!
That's what you get you little smug runner! ha ha this made me laugh so hard. :) hope your bum is feeling better now, yikes be careful out there you ice skater! :)
I love running in the moon light also. You seriously need to get som Yak Trax.
oh no!!!! i can't imagine having to run through that weather!
I was alll "Ahhh..." until you made me bust a gut!
Glad you're okay and over that nasty cold.
OUCH, that's what makes me weary of running this time of year. I'm hoping the yaktrax help, maybe you'll win some in HBBC.
I love your attitude about the run through ,I need to get on that path
Dang, I HATE that. I usually have a good splat at least once a winter while running....I usually do it with an audience. Great job getting out there and I agree...it is a beautiful time to run.
I am so conflicted over winter. So beautiful, love the change of seasons, and Christmastime... and it is so cold, dark, evil and awful at the same time.
Oy. So sorry the beautiful peace of an awesome run had to be interrupted by a flying leap into an a$$ plant. Effin' bridge.
AWww.. well it sounded nice till ya fell!! I like the pic, it reminded me of Elf when he was heading to new york.
Your post made me giggle.. I also ended out outside and ended up doing about 4k...all the way to the gym where I ran 4 more on the treadmill and then had my husband pick me up. :)
I used to live in upstate NY and I must say, I don't miss running in the snow very much!
Thanks for stopping by with the good luck wishes!
Oh no! I was totally with you about the beauty of night running in winter. :o) Stay warm and safe.
I don't mind snow, but windy cold sucks! I think we all can't wait for the Spring. Darn it's not even Winter yet!!!
LOL!
Awesome post. You had me going with the winter beauty thing. Haha
Glad you're ok!!!
